Brainstorming!

So this week we were taught about brainstorming. What really is brainstorming? It's about collaborating, to work together with others to generate ideas. Usually about a solution for a problem. However when you collaborate you have to be very careful when to give your own ideas. Thats because there are people who would use your idea as their own. However, that being said, we still have to be a team player.

What makes a good group to brainstorm with is when everyone spontaneously share their ideas where every member contributes.

There are a small set of rules when we brainstorm.
- defer judgement
If we immediately judge when someone shares their idea, even if its not particularly good, it would create a wall for them. They would feel like their ideas aren't good enough. By immediately judging, it would hinder them from sharing their own ideas.
- go for volume
Its better to have quantity over quality here. This would give the group a list of ideas to choose from. With many different ideas, we can have multiple approaches and we can combine small ideas to create the solution.
- one conversation at a time
When someone speaks we should listen. It shows that we respect the person and that person's contribution.
- Be visual
By writing down and illustrating our ideas, it would be easier to comprehend them.
- Stay on topic
When we keep our minds focus on the task at hand we wouldn't be distracted and generate ideas that are useless.
- Encourage WILD ideas
We should always think outside the box. Think of unorthodox methods of solving the problem. By thinking wildly we come up with unique and unconventional solutions.
